Willpower Is All You Need

Ten people ended up dry for Jan . I had originally hoped to get one person per month to help me out so roping in nine others to join me for the first month was fucking deadly . Thanks to Keucksy , Karen , Paul , Jamie , Ro , Stuie , Tommer , Rebecca & Aidan for their support so far . Nice one ................ some of you can have a beer on Monday ............... lucky bastards . Ro , Stuie & Aidan are in for Feb too along with new recruits : Declan , Annette , Niall Mc , Spurs , Mark & Sinead ......... and of course moi ! ......... Join in if you like ....... you dont have to give up beer ............... the girls are giving up chocolate ........ my mother is giving up beef for the year ! Fat Man Scoop

The piggy bank thing got me thinking . Not drinking 500 plus pints or 7 kegs of beer in a year along with not drinking 5 cases of wine has to be good for your beer belly ? Surely .............. will see . Started this challenge at around 16 stone . Will weigh in at the end of every month to see if no gargle makes any difference ........... will keep you posted ..........

How much could I save

The piggy bank idea got me thinking .......... how much could I save on drink in a year ? Conservatively , I reckon that I would normally drink about 10 pints a week , plus a bottle of wine ..... give or take ........ some weeks you would drink little or nothing ........ some weeks you would go on a right session . Thats about 50 euro a week & doesnt include taxi's , fast food & random drunk purchases ........ fuelled by drink induced madness . Throwing all of that into the mix , thats about three grand ! Fuck me , I never really thought of it like that ..... thats a good holiday somewhere . Something else to look forward to at the end of this . Now , I just need to hide the piggy bank from Lyn .

Thief

I decided to put all the money that I would normally spend on beer into a piggy bank every week. Good idea I hear you say. I thought so too until I realised that my lovely wife was stealing it to fund her shopping habit !

I had to seal the bloody thing with an industrial lock & a roll of duck tape . Love you babe ..... but not that much.........

Friday #5

First friday that I haven't wanted a beer ........... maybe I'm sick ......... although I feel good , really good in fact . In saying that , I haven't gone out yet for 2010 ........ maybe the real test will be a good night on the tiles ........... with water ! Fuck it , I'm confused ......... and now dying for a beer ........ shit

Friendship

It's amazing how things can work out when you have great family & friends . No matter what situation you find yourself in these people are worth their weight in gold . When I was sick I learned an awful lot of things about myself both good & bad . Things that made me a better person . I'm thankful for that . I also learned how important my family are to me & who my real friends are. These people know who they are . I'm eternally grateful for your support . I could not have faced what I went through without you . I love you all now ........ I will love you always................... GT

Dont be afraid to ask me anything about testicular cancer . Men are so funny when it comes to this subject , even my mates ! They cringe when the subject is even mentioned & most of them get embarassed . It's fucking comical . I wont die if you talk about it ............. promise . ( important point of note .... the t-shirt is plural , while my own personal plight was singular )

The Demon Drink

What is it that makes drink so appealing ? It can make you feel as sick as a fritzel as you vow "never again" to your inner demons during the DT's ............. yet, we as a nation crave it . I have never heard so many people talk about how much they need drink until I started this thing . It's actually scary that we function as a society as we do , when all of the time we are either drinking , about to drink , having just drank , wishing we were drinking , swearing to never drink again .............

Donation update

25 days in & we have broken through the 1,000 euro mark . Already this thing has surpassed my wildest expectations & I have revised the end target up from its original 2k to 3k .
